Pioneer Kuro PDP5080HD Plasma Review

Like many 50in plasma tvs, the Pioneer Kuro PDP5080 HDTV has a screen resolution of 1366x768 pixels. That's not as many as competitor's (and usually more costly) 1080p models. However, at the 50 inch screen size, the pros of 1080p are equivocal for most sources. While most plasmas do an adequate job of displaying blacks, the Pioneer PDP5080 is exceptional! One con out of the box is the color accuracy of the display. The Kuro's accuracy is not the best, especially with green colors. To achieve the absolute best picture, a little tweaking is definitely needed and can be easily fixed.

Design

The Pioneer PDP-5080, like most plasma televisions today, is very sleek in appearance. The structure is a high gloss black with silver along the sides, bottom, and top of the set. From the front, only the black is visible. The Pioneer PDP-5080 includes a matching stand. It allows the speaker below the panel to be removed in case you want to use an external audio system.

Overall

This plasma displays an awesome deep shade of black with a clean image. The Pioneer Kuro HDTV also has an anti-reflective screen which greatly reduces the glare of light. Although it isn't 1080p, we do not feel this is a issue for a set this size. It was difficult to find a difference between the picture from this set and one of the newer 1080p televisions. Consequently, we feel that this is one of the best tv's being sold today...definitely worth the buy.
